New Romney Country Fayre 2022 - A huge success!
After a two year gap, the Country Fayre was back with more visitors than ever before flocking and thousands lining the High Street to enjoy the carnival atmosphere of the parade. Hundreds of people took part, with the colourful parade stretching the entire length of the High Street. And, with 3 bands taking part, it certainly provided plenty of noise too!
The weather was perfect and the appreciative crowds around both arenas proved this year's entertainment was a huge hit. With over 100 stalls and a vintage fairground, including a Ferris wheel and teacup ride, there was plenty of fun to be had by all.
New Romney Fire and Rescue added to the community spirit by showcasing the 1973 vintage fire engine whose recent restoration had made it a star of TV's Car SOS. The event was also supported by HM Coastguard volunteers, police from the Civil Nuclear Constabulary, Ashford Police Cadets and B M Ambulance who provided First Aid Cover.
The packed arena programme included performances from the Southern Golden Retriever Display Team, Sky Birds of Prey, Scott Wilson Mountain Bike Stunt Show and the Black Eagles Acrobatic Team, who did seemingly impossible limbo stunts! Local youngsters from Emma-Lou's Dance Troupe and Townsend Dance drew big crowds and music was provided by Old School Samba, Glenduart Pipes and Drums and the ever popular Sheppey St John Ambulance Band.
We'd like to say a huge thank you to all of 2022's supporters: sponsors. advertisers, stallholders, performers, logistical helpers, volunteer marshals and those who helped out on the day. Without them and our amazing community, we could not have staged the event.
Parade Road Closure Info for Sat 27th July
Please be aware that the following roads will be closed from 10.15 am until 11.00 am to allow the parade to take place. However, they are unlikely to be closed for the full 45 minutes, as a rolling road closure will be in operation to allow roads to reopen as the parade passes to minimise disruption to through traffic:
- Station Road (from Marsh Academy lower car park)
- New Romney High St to junction with West St (A259)
- West St
- Sussex Rd
- Fairfield Rd - closed all day between Ashford Rd and Mabledone Close from 0900 - 1700 for pedestrian safety.
We apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused. Please be polite to the marshals - they are giving up their time to help with our community event. We have obtained permission from KCC Highways and Kent Police to close the roads and have authority from FHDC's Safety Advisory Group to stage the Fayre.
